WHO WE ARE

We are a church family made up of people from different parts of the city and from all over the world. We are part of the International Presbyterian Church, which means we are led by elders and we are joined to other gospel-centred congregations. Folks in our fellowship come from a variety of church backgrounds, or none, and we do our best to welcome newcomers of all ages and stages of life.

Leadership

David Gibson

Minister

David Gibson has been with Trinity since its inception. He was born in Tennessee and grew up in Tanzania and then also in Belfast, N. Ireland. He is married to Angela, with four children, Archie, Ella, Sam and Lily. David has lived in Aberdeen for over 20 years and is the author of several books and articles.

Dave Clemo

Assistant Minister

Dave is from Newbury in Berkshire. He is married to Rachel and they have a young daughter, Eve. Dave worked in medical communications before training for ministry at Union School of Theology in Wales. He enjoys martial arts, trying unusual foods, nerding out on theological books, and an occasional bash on the drums. Dave serves in preaching, pastoring and discipleship, with a focus on developing our student work.

Simon Barker

Session Clerk

Simon was raised in Manchester and came to faith through the persistence of school Christian Union teachers and Billy Graham’s mission to England in 1984. He came to love reformed doctrine as an undergraduate student in London under Dick Lucas’ preaching at St Helen's Bishopsgate, and then found a Presbyterian church home when he arrived in Scotland in 1994. He is married to Pam and they have two daughters, Emily and Grace. He works as a Children’s Orthopaedic Surgeon here in Aberdeen and in Shetland. He enjoys a book with a strong plot, superman movies, meals with family and friends, and discussions by the fireside. He loves to explore; favourite destinations are the USA and Malawi!

Struan Yarney

Church Manager & Elder

Although born in Glasgow, Struan spent his childhood growing up in Dalgety Bay, a small coastal town in (the Kingdom of) Fife. He relocated to Aberdeen 11 years ago, first to study at the University of Aberdeen, before going on to work alongside RGU Christian Union and then here at Trinity as a Ministry Trainee. He then worked for the North East Scotland Pension Fund before taking up the position of Church Manager in 2023. Sarah came to Aberdeen in 2019 and it took him two years to convince her to stay and be his wife! They now have a little girl, Naomi. Outside of work, he will often be found doing something sporting related. He plays for a local badminton club and enjoys watching his beloved Manchester United and Aldershot Town. He and Sarah also like jumping in rivers, summer permitting.

David Macleod

Elder

David works as a GP. He had the privilege of growing up in a Christian family, and is now married to Kaye. They have two young sons, John and Matthew, and an even younger daughter, Ruth. Out of hours David plays a little football and golf, and enjoys fine tea.

Lawrie Fairns

Elder

Originally from the Highlands, Lawrie has been living in Aberdeen for over 20 years. He is married to Susie and they have two sons, Corin and Joel. Lawrie works in Peterhead as an RMPS teacher.

Alastair Huey

Elder

Alastair grew up in Northern Ireland, spent three years studying in Exeter and has lived and worked in Aberdeen for over ten years since. He is married to Sophie and they have three young children. When not working Alastair enjoys black coffee and getting outdoors.

James McAlister

Elder

James is originally from Bangor, Northern Ireland, where he grew up in a Christian home. He met his wife, Danèlle, while studying in Aberdeen, and together they have been part of the Trinity family since 2014. James works as an accountant in Corporate Tax at PwC. He can be seen working with numbers, lists and spreadsheets inside and outside of work.

James and Danèlle have three children Tobiah, Ariella, and Elias who ensure life is never dull (or quiet). When he’s not trying to keep up with his kids, James is an avid reader of history and sports, especially football. He’s grateful that as a devoted Manchester United fan, the two subjects often overlap.

Staff Team

Drew Tulloch

Music Co-ordinator

Drew enjoys being responsible for leading the music at Trinity. He grew up in Shetland and came to Aberdeen to study music in1968. Apart from some time teaching in Philadelphia, he spent his professional life as a church organist, teacher, examiner, pianist in chamber ensembles and accompanist in the city. The last 26 years of his career in education were spent at St Margaret’s School for Girls where he was Director of Music. He is married to Fiona and their son David lives and works in London.

Sinclair Ferguson

Preaching Associate

Sinclair was minister of two churches in Scotland, on the Island of Unst the most northerly of the Shetland Isles, and in St George’s-Tron, in the centre of Glasgow, as well as serving in the USA at First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina. He and Dorothy have four children and twelve grandchildren. Sinclair continues to have teaching commitments in the USA as Chancellor’s Professor of Systematic Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary and as a Teaching Fellow of Ligonier Ministries. But here, as a member of Trinity Church, he serves in an honorary capacity as our Preaching Associate.

Sarah Barron

CHURCH ADMINISTRATOR

Sarah grew up in Morpeth, Northumberland, but spent a lot of her childhood visiting family in Scotland and holidaying in the Highlands. After school she studied Children’s Nursing at RGU here in Aberdeen. She then moved down to Dundee for 10 months to take on the role of a Relay Worker alongside Dundee University Christian Union. Sarah is married to Peter, and in her spare time she loves to bake, play the piano and flute, and has recently picked up a new hobby of crocheting! Sarah completed two years on the Ministry Training Academy as a Ministry Trainee at Trinity, as well as also training in Biblical Counselling. She oversees the running of the church office in a part-time capacity.

Sandy Macdonald

Ministry Trainee

Sandy grew up in Lenzie, and so would claim to be Glaswegian (but  a real one would disagree). He spent four years outside of Scotland studying Law at University in Oxford and London, and is putting that to one side for now to explore ministry training at Trinity. Sandy is up for chatting about most sports, though he is primarily a long-suffering Clyde fan with little respite from following Manchester United too. He enjoys getting outside and running, cycling or walking, football and golf too, as well as playing a little guitar and drums.
