George Keith (1554–1623), the 5th Earl Marischal, was a key figure in Scotland’s Reformation and the founder of Marischal College in Aberdeen in 1593. A committed Protestant, Keith used his influence and wealth to promote education rooted in Reformed theology. His vision helped make Aberdeen a centre of learning for ministers and scholars during a time of great change in the Scottish church. By establishing Marischal College, he ensured that future generations of clergy would be trained to uphold the gospel and serve the nation. His legacy continues today as part of the University of Aberdeen, reminding us how education and faith were closely linked in shaping Scotland’s spiritual heritage.
